Most houses built between 1920 and 1980 used cement asbestos shingles on roofs and siding. They look like regular cement shingles but feel heavier and have a slightly different texture. You'll usually find them on ranch houses, Cape Cods, and older commercial buildings from that era. The shingles might be gray, white, or colored, and they often have a slightly chalky feel when you touch them.

Once you know they're there, normal maintenance becomes impossible. You can't nail into them, cut them, or remove them yourself without creating a health hazard. Most roofers and siding contractors won't work around them at all. Your insurance company might require removal before they'll cover other work. Even simple repairs like fixing gutters or painting trim become complicated when contractors see asbestos shingles.

   The crew carefully removes each shingle whole to prevent fiber release, working section by section.

   Central Insulation Systems Inc. wet-wipes every surface in the work area and runs HEPA filtration.

   Dispose at licensed facility

   All material goes to a state-approved asbestos disposal facility with proper manifests.
